THE APARTEMENT HOUSE OF HOPE

WOHNHAUS HOFFNUNG | THEATRE PLAY | 2004

Theatreplay by JENNY GAND & AZADEH FAKHRAN

Inside an apartment building, four tenants are captured, within a back-breaking space. With the reality of this unnatural habitat and all its array of positive and negative impact, the audience is able to experiences the daily troubles and fears of the captives, emotionally immersing themselves into this human abyss, gaining metaphorical insight into the appalling scenario of our current day, society.

Human beings, impacted by social structures, are deprived of freedom, and are only able to live out life’s peculiarities, their private wishes and individual obsessions, by retreating into a spatial delineation. The human, as fighter, in a struggle for survival, within these social structures and at the same time having become depraved, in this isolation.

The play shows a snapshot of the life of these peoples without waving a moral flag. A life, which circulates between lies, bitterness, fear and boredom, between self-delusion and self abandonment. In the end, perhaps hope…
